» 1.3 MiB - 281 hits - September 9, 2014
A report of the the 2nd African Women in Film Forum (AWIFF) held in September 2013. Themed 'Creating Compelling Social Justice Content for Film and Television', the forum brought together filmmakers and other cultural producers from across the continent and the diaspora to deliberate on storytelling as a way to foreground African women’s stories. For these filmmakers, producing creative audio-visual content has emanated from a desire to tell radical and evocative stories. Consequently, speakers, panelists and participants described the conversations and discussions to be “thought-provoking,” “revealing,” “inspiring,” yet “agitating” and “challenging”. For many, the forum offered an opportunity to engage creatively about process and develop strategic alliances with fellow filmmakers and cultural producers, both within and across borders.

Impacting Generations of African women "The African Women’s Development Fund has never been more relevant than today, when the APP acknowledges that “Africa has a long way to go in liberating and harnessing the energy and skills of women, and this aggravates developmental challenges and restricts progress towards the MDGs”. It is almost a decade since the AWDF was set up to make wom- en’s access to resource a priority in the gender equality agenda. Although access to resource has become a global challenge, making resources available for empowerment of women in Africa continues to be our priority agenda."
